Apples
are the most popular fruit in Poland. An average Pole eats
approximately 20 kg of apples every year what makes a half of all
consumed fruit. Apples can be stored for a long time so we can eat
them during the entire year.
Our Health
Thanks to fibre, vitamins and other biologically active substances
(eg. polyphenols) apples can be called the elixir of health.
Scientific research indicates that apples prevent heart diseases and
tumours. Apples are one of the richest sources of a vegetable fibre
which improves the appropriate movement of the intestines and
prevents the diseases and tumours of the alimentary canal. Fibre’s
ability to bulge creates the feeling of satiety and its low
calorific value enables to remain slim and fit even while eating a
lot of apples. The high amount of alkaline elements (including
potassium) enables to keep the acid-base balance of a human body.
Fructose and glucose contained in apples slowly and safely increase
the level of sugar (glucose) in blood maintaining it at the fixed
level for a long period of time. Pectins (water-soluble elements of
fibre) contained in apples reduce the level of cholesterol and
absorb the harmful and toxic substances like heavy metals.
Additionally, apples have the high content of polyphenol substances
including antioxidants which have beneficial influence on a human
body (they reduce the amount of substances causing tumours and heart
diseases).
Advices for byuers
You
shouldn’t pay attention to the kind of apples you buy. Simply eat
the ones you like the most but on the condition that they are not
damaged. Store them in a cool place but remember that only apples
with the room temperature have the best flavour. That’s why you
should always keep some apples within reach of your hands in order
to grab a bite whenever you feel like eating apples.
Advices for consumers
Always
eat apples with they peels because inside the peel there are plenty
of substances preventing tumours (eg. polyphenols). Sliced apples
will not darken if you sprinkle them with the lemon juice.
Eating fruit and vegetables five times a day don’t forget about
apples! |
